The world’s largest side hug photo.

Oct 14th by Jon

It’s official, the world’s largest side hug consists of 13 people. Fortunately, as a Christian I’m superstitious about numbers. Except the number 7 and maybe 666 and 4’2″ but only because that’s how tall I look in this photo.

It’s important to note that there are three official Stuff Christians Like t-shirts in this photo. Big thanks to everyone that came out and especially Dave and Heather for not only wearing t-shirts but sending me this photo as well.

Side hugs and leg drops,

Jon

Can you photoshop me in there?

Oslerfamily Oct 14, 2008

So nice of Obama to take time out of his busy campaign to be included in a side hug. I bet all the politicians could use a side hug about now. So where did you find 12 people? Did you put up a sign “Will give Skittles for a side hug” sign?

Tiffany Oct 14, 2008

poor jon. you just happened to end up beside a really tall guy. wish i could have been there.

sara Oct 14, 2008

Did you mean as a Christian you AREN’T superstitious about numbers? Because otherwise your sentences don’t completely make sense…

Wish I could have joined!

Mandy Oct 14, 2008

I am so proud to be a part of the side hug. Oh and the Skittles were delicious.

Jenl Oct 14, 2008

I think you should include those of us who were side huggin’ with you in spirit…

Just sayin’.

Dog snob Oct 14, 2008

I was wondering how that went. Honestly though, ya’ll don’t look very “huggy”, maybe more leg drops are in order to help get everyone in the spirit of it. ;)

sally Oct 14, 2008

if you factor in some ministry math, like adding in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with every person, you will get a side hug with 52 people! that’s like almost 100 people right there!

Paul Oct 14, 2008

Hey, the dude in the Obama shirt is also rocking the SCL fauxhawk. Cool.

dewde Oct 14, 2008

I ran around like a dufus looking for everyone. I found Ben Arment and he told me, at 1:36, that the “Gwinnett Arena” is not the same thing as the “Gwinnett Center”.

By the time I hoofed it over… all y’all were gone.

Reckon I’ll have to side-hug-tackle you at NPCC one Sunday when you’re not looking.

:-)

@donna,

How’s this? I put you right next to Jon.

Side Hug Photo

Dave Steinbeck Oct 14, 2008

Jon – It was great being part of the first ever recorded side hug. My apologies for making you appear short. But keep in mind, I’m 8′ tall, and so that puts you at 6′ at least…I’m thinking. :)

At least the famous SCL shirts are together. Great to meet you and yes, you have a very lovely blog! :)

kj Oct 14, 2008

Proud to be a part of the original 13!

Annie K Oct 14, 2008

Hucklebuck…you are very sneaky there with the Obama dood(!)…

Dig it!

Grafted Branch@Restoring the Years Oct 14, 2008

I know you’re standing by the tallest guy in the line-up on purpose.

That’s like me wearing stripes–horizontal stripes.

Marni Oct 14, 2008

I like the guy the in discreet Obama shirt. I wonder who he’s voting for?…

Anonymous Oct 14, 2008

o.k. in Hucklebuck’s comment, he posted a link to the side hug photo. But in his, Obama’s face is X’d out?? I’m thinking Hucklebuck played with his photoshop…??? Which is the actual pic? Pro-Obama or No-Bama?

P.S. Wish I could have been there…Jon, you could have stood next to me, I’m 5 feet on a good day with my heels on! :)

sally Oct 14, 2008

Anon at 7:43: hucklebuck is a photoshop ninja (did you see his purse weasel?) – so I am quite sure that he was responsible for the no-bama T shirt. On a separate matter, Jon, where is the unibrow?? In this and the video clip you quite clearly have 2 separate and distinct brows. (Or is this more photoshopping?!).

Michael C. McGough Oct 14, 2008

Man, I meant to come by but was completely overwhelmed by the 12,000+ people with their spiky hair, embellished blazers, and surprisingly cool Dave Ramsey t-shirts. I also forgot. Sorry.

steve Oct 14, 2008

I wanted to come side-hug as well, but realize that SCL are among those that Sr. Pastors monitor closely on road trips.

Jon Oct 14, 2008

Gee Hucklebuck, irrational fear of Obama Sidehug?

Rosie de Riveter Oct 14, 2008

So, when does the Side Hug Tour start? Is Indianapolis on the schedule?

Anonymous Oct 14, 2008

Was the Obama guy looking for Jeremiah Wright?

Donna Oct 14, 2008

Hucklebuck…..i’m as tall as Dave!!

jon Oct 14, 2008

I had no idea that my shirt would cause so much drama… I just wanted to be in a bipartisan side hug. :( And hey, you guys can call me Jon, not obama guy, its cool.

Anonymous Oct 14, 2008

Don’t forget to add the number 12 to your list, because besides looking 4’2″, you also look like you are only 12! ha ha ha!

Seriously, I’m digging the side huggers. I reckon you all stopped off at the pub for a pint just after leaving that.

BTW, did anyone go to the Africa thing advertised behind you? What’s up with that?

ME

NB Just what is ‘kuuuyk’ supposed to mean? It made me type that just to post this!

Hucklebuck Oct 14, 2008

Jon,

Sorry, I couldn’t leave it alone. I have avoided politics on SCL, but once I opened up Photoshop something came over me and I just couldn’t resist.

And did you seriously think a larger-than-life pic of a politician (any politician) emblazoned across your chest wouldn’t cause drama? :)

JennyM Oct 14, 2008

Wow. Cool. Neato. I just love this. Bless your hearts.

Where’s STACY???
Is it a real SCL get together without Luke to Jon’s Obi Wan? Then again, Hucklebuck might just Photoshop hisself in there. In a robe. With a light saber.

Anonymous Oct 15, 2008

Part of me wants to up your 13 Jon and send you a photo of FOURTEEN Christians side hugging!

Anonymous Oct 15, 2008

Jon: it was a treat to be a part of the WLSH. Thanks for the skittles, they gave me the end of the day sugar boost I needed. And the OBAMA guy…poor lost soul…

Prodigal Jon Oct 15, 2008

Dewde -
My bad on missing you at the SCLSH. I am horrible at planning things and should have realized that “the front of a really big building that may or may not be named an arena” was not the best way to ensure people could find the location.

We’ll catch up at NPCC sometime.
Jon

HaVeFuN Oct 15, 2008

Did anyone else notice that everyone in the photo is wearing jeans??

Molly D Oct 16, 2008

Hey, I KNOW someone in the world’s largest side hug!!! Yeah for Tom Dean! My favorite former boss and good, good pal. Had to give a shout out! :)

Anonymous Oct 16, 2008

I guess all Christians don’t know if we should promote a liberal like Obama for President?

confused

Hucklebuck Oct 16, 2008

I should have just left the photo alone, but I can’t change that now. I don’t feel this is the blog to discuss presidential politics. So if you’d like to continue the discussion, join me here: http://sclhucklebuck.blogspot.com/2008/10/presidential-politics.html

anna joy Oct 21, 2008

side hugs are so lame, but also so necessary. sigh.

[...] like the “Christian Side Hug,” an idea that is either a sick satire or a seriously misguided attempt at discouraging lust. In either case, the concept has spawned this [...]

Jenn Mar 7, 2010

Christians also like Obama. Which is odd.
