Stuff Christians Like "Like List"
Oct 7th by Jon1. Churched by Matthew Paul Turner
Author Matthew Paul Turner has been incredibly kind and generous to me and this website. And he’s a fantastic writer. That’s why I’m excited to tell you about his new book “Churched.” He’s written a ton of books, was the editor of CCM and has a really popular blog, but I think this is going to be his best work to date. It’s basically a gut wrenchingly honest, yet funny, look at his experiences growing up in the church. It’s available today. Check out Churched.
2. Rebel by Lecrae
Since the death of D-boy, I honestly haven’t spent a whole lot of time listening to Christian rap. But people like Lecrae are wooing me back with a vengeance. It’s not easy to be a C
hristian rapper. You’re constantly fighting the urge to throw your entire testimony into every song. But Lecrae sidesteps that lyrical landmine while still remaining true to his faith. His new album “Rebel” is #4 on the iTunes most popular hip hop albums chart right now, only one behind Lil Wayne and higher on the charts than Young Jeezy and Kanye West. That is the ridiculous, but makes sense considering the greatness of this album. I worked on a project once with Reach Records and Lecrae and they are changing the face of Memphis with their ministry to reach people with music. Check out Rebel.

I read MPT’s “Survival Guide to Christian Culture” and it was such a jewel! My husband and I picked it up out of a ‘bargain bin’ at a Barnes and Noble on vacation once. Hilarious and “ouch!!” at the same time.
d-boy- i haven’t heard of him in years and just found his tape while cleaning out my garage a couple nights ago. had to give it a listen again. good stuff.
I’m on the blog tour for “Churched” and I can’t wait to get to it. I’ve got 2 books in front of it, and I’ll be working through them as quickly as I can. A quick glance at “Churched” tells me I’m really going to enjoy that one.
Thanks Jon! Appreciate the support!
For some great rap.rock check out 116 Clique. The CD Amped will have you wanting to be a rapper in no time!
Alright Memphis is here, and I have never heard of this guy. I am going to look him up now!
If you like Lecare, you’ll also like Flame. His theology is sound, his music is good. His song “Context” from the album Rewind helped me on a hermeneutics test.
his website is flame314.com
Another recommendation for Lecrae, I see… off to check him out.
Lecrae is the bomb.com. Also, you should check out Shai Linne, or even just his blog: Lyrical Theology. He packs a ton of meaning into his songs; I highly recommend.
Props for mentioning Lecrae and the book, “Churched”. If you like Lecrae, you should listen to Tre The Third. His myspace has some tracks of his up and playing. http://www.myspace.com/trethethird.
God Bless!
