Latest Twitter: I'm bummed to hear is no longer releasing a print version. Great, great magazine.

The SCL interview is live. My wife is slightly mortified.

May 28th by Jon

A few weeks ago, the guys at xxxchurch.com interviewed me. The guys and girls at that ministry are awesome. I just listened to the podcast I am on and if you are anything like me, you are going to have one of four reactions:

1. That guy will not shut up.
(Seriously, it was like I turned on a fire hose of words.)

2. That guy would get disqualified at the “humility Olympics.”
(There are certain household products you can mix to make dangerous bombs. That is apparently what it is like when you mix excitement and nervousness for me. I kind of sound like a cocky jerk.)

3. That guy talks so fast.
(Again, I was sweaty and nervous and just fired up the “words come out of Jon’s mouth machine.)

4. All of the above.

All that said, I’m slowly deflating my massive ego in counseling right now and hope you’ll still come play Frisbee with me someday despite how I sound.

Here’s the link to the podcast, called Dirty Little Secrets. Again, I loved doing the interview and plan to embarrass myself like that as often as people will let me. The folks at that site rule, I however, am not cool or media savvy or slow of speech.

We all get a little strange when we know we’re being recorded. It’s cool.

That’s actually one reason I love writing as opposed to other mediums. The ability to review your response before anyone else sees it has amazing value.

I love the folks at XXXchurch and look forward to listening to the podcast.

katdish May 28, 2008

I can’t get the podcast to work! Argh! Can you put a link that will take you right to the interview?

Anonymous May 28, 2008

Dude, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for that interview. I laughed out loud.

Anonymous May 28, 2008

jon, just listened.
you were funny, and came across as honest and genuine.
i think you and the counselor are helping your wife (because we all know if one marries well, his perfect wife’s best quality is her ability to keep his ego in check :)
thanks for mentioning rehab. we need to demystify the process and make it more palatable. god can do all things, but as a therapist i’ve found most times, He wants us to do the work.
thanks for living out loud. you bless us.
anon because of confidentiality issues

yeah, i love your site, but you’ve gotta work on that…

maybe i need to work on my need to criticize

self-awareness is a gift that you do have though

timmy b May 28, 2008

not at all ego related. keep preaching the truth brother! i’ll keep praying for your success! awesome!

mickey May 28, 2008

I also love XXXChurch. Actually I found you through XXXChurch. I have a friend who has a friend who does a lot of work with them (Krissee Danger), and it’s how I found you.

Lori May 28, 2008

you sounded awesome, reach around and pat yourself on the back :)

Jamie - RoseCottage May 28, 2008

Haven’t had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, so I’m just taking your word for it – I’m sure you did great. But I am glad to know I’m not the only one who loses all semblance of being cool when I have the chance to talk to more than, like, two people at once.

I also found out about this place from the netcast.

Here’s a direct link: http://www.triplexchurch.com/dirtysecrets93.mp3

Christina May 28, 2008

You did cram a whole lot into a tiny interview, but it was good!

Christina May 28, 2008

P.S. There are few things I hate more than listening to a recording of myself talking.

Christina May 28, 2008

Okay I confess, I spend waaaaaay too much time on this site. But I just thought of something that might be worth posting: dressing up for church. Why do we do it? And what about those churches that multiple services at varying levels of contemporary-ness? Does the dress code change for each service too? This is something of a concern for me – I never thought about it until I went to college and went to churches where you didn’t dress up, and now it seems weird to dress up at my home church.
Oh yeah and don’t forget, on Easter Sunday everyone has to have a special new outfit. What is that all about??

Christi May 28, 2008

You did fine. And you are just inflating your ego more by fishing for compliments. ; ) But seriously you did just fine.

Beloved MaMa May 28, 2008

very cool… you are saying things that many in our generation are thinking- except that you are actually able to articulate it much better than the rest of us!!! I loved what you said about wanting to speak in big arenas (who doesn’t?!) but also going to the small crowds and hurting people. I’ve often read on Christian sites that certain speakers will not go to crowds under a certain number…I always think, isn’t that defeating their purpose (o.k., now I’m borderline judging- but still!). I also like what you said about teaching your kids about sex… I was taught- everything you need to know about sex you can read in the bible… and I’m thinking- which story, exactly…seriously! I’m pointing my husband to your podcast so he can hear what you had to say about it and then pass it along to our boys!!! That was awesome- we both knew that we want to be open about sex – having gotten pregnant in BIBLE COLLEGE, out of wedlock- PK, MK and a church- girl… you’ve given us words to go by…THANK YOU!!! I’m telling everyone about your sites :o ) Keep on !!!

Anonymous May 28, 2008

You were genuine. That’s what’s most important.

robyn collins May 28, 2008

greatness… it was wonderful… you shared alot, and they were great about it. clearly they come from a similar place… because the posts they mentioned, were some of my faves!

praying for you.

Greg Cooper May 28, 2008

If it wasnt for that podcast i would not be reading through all your posts. you made me look stupid as i laughed out loud on the train!

Anonymous May 28, 2008

Loved the podcast

“I Heart SCL”

Pete Juvinall May 28, 2008

Can you get spare parts for your mouth machine domestic? Or, do they have to order them from Europe?

Deborah May 28, 2008

I can’t get the link to work :( Any advice?

the displaced canuck May 28, 2008

Great interview. Thanks for “sharing your testimony” about SCL.

Jeremy Lathroum May 28, 2008

I hadn’t heard about your cool little blog until I heard the podcast! I haven’t been able to stop reading the blog. I grew up in church and have identified with everything I’ve read! These are all the things my wife and I joke about with others, but you package it up and serve it in a funny little portion! Love it… keep it up!

Stephanie May 28, 2008

Jon, whatever. You were great–very professional.

And congrats on the interest of that publisher! God’s going to keep using you for HIS glory, I’m sure.

sarah May 28, 2008

The podcast was great! loved it.

Hey, while I’m here, I was at Starbucks last night with some friends and I noticed a couple of tables and chairs pushed together over in the corner. And then I saw it, amidst the drinks and pastries there were some Bibles! ah yes, the Starbucks Bible study… I couldn’t recall if you’ve already covered this one but I just thought I’d throw that out.

ypguybrit May 29, 2008

hahaha i love it man. you did great

outofsin May 29, 2008

Just listened to the podcast today and you brought up some fantastic points. I loved your excitement and I am sure I will love browsing your blog.

Allison Leigh May 30, 2008

Wait, where is this “Ignoring Porn” titled post? I do not see it.

ChrisfromNH May 30, 2008

Your interview was great and funny. You were in the flow, direct and off the cuff. I think you should consider throwing down a podcast of your own… once the book comes out and you have the time and massive amount of cash from your book sales.

misty morning mountain May 31, 2008

I just wanted to say that I enjoyed the interview. Not only was it interesting and thought provoking, but now I realize that your last name is pronounced A-cuff (long A sound), as opposed to uh-cuff (dog sneeze sound). Good to know…

Erin G Jul 19, 2008

I honestly thought the first time you put xxxchurch.com, that you were protecting the name of some church. no, this is REALLY a site! and a good one that I will have to explore in more detail at some point. thanks for intoducing me to it!

(and the interview is fine! you might not get the gold for humility… but a bronze wouldn’t be out of the question. you were sincere and… YOU… and exactly how I thought you would be after reading your writing. which also says you’re a good – and real/honest – writer.)
